Radiant In-Floor Heating and Cooling

If you’re buying, building or renovating the home of your dreams, don’t overlook the heating system that offers ultimate comfort – radiant in-floor heating.  Radiant  heat circulates warm water through tubing located beneath the floor, walls or ceiling to radiate heat outward.  It warms the interior surfaces of the room, not the air, creating a feeling similar to sitting in the sun on a summer day.

Radiant floor heating works great with open floor plans, especially in areas with high ceilings and rooms with large windows, bathrooms, finished basements and garage workspaces.  It’s economical, can help reduce energy costs while providing a healthy, clean and quiet system.

Kevin O’Leary, a Certified Hydronic Designer, designs award winning system layouts using state-of-the-art computer design techniques and cost effective installation methods.  Kevin will partner with you to determine if in-floor tubing, slim baseboard radiators or decorative wall panels are right for your home project.

These photos show Zurn panels with heat tubing installed on the ceiling and floor. The walls were also done in this third-floor smoking room. There was previously high heat loss in this room due to the number and size of the windows.

In 2005, Kevin and his team in the Heating Division won second place in a competition organized by Radiant Panel Association in the Retrofit Division for the work done here at the Canning Summer Home.

High Velocity Air Conditioning

As a companion to radiant heat, we offer a state-of-the art cooling system supplied through flexible mini-ducts positioned in the ceiling, walls or floors. This unique system removes 30% more humidity from the air than conventional cooling systems providing a draft free environment with even temperatures throughout your home.  Both systems add up to “total comfort”

Thermal Solar Water Heating

O’Leary Plumbing and Heating installs solar water heating systems for your home or commercial building utilizing your current water heater. Solar energy provides renewable and free hot water for your homes’ domestic water use.  Solar collector panels, installed on a south-facing roof, absorb the sun’s energy transferring the heat into water as it moves through a tubing system.  The heated water is then deposited into a storage tank installed ahead of your existing water heater.  The storage tank assures a consistent flow of hot water even on cloudy days.  Solar water heating systems can be installed on new or in existing homes. Solar energy may also be used as an alternate heat source for your home supplying a cost-effective source for a radiant heating system.

A pool heating system works by installing black plastic solar absorbing panels on a south or west-facing rooftop.  A diverting valve with temperature control is installed after the pool filter to transfer pool water up through the solar panels when the temperature drops below the set point. When the pool reaches the desired temperature, the diverting valve simply bypasses the solar panels. When solar panels are in use, they keep your roof and attic cooler, helping with your air conditioning costs. The system requires no additional equipment and utilizes your current pool pump. Most pool solar system installations can be completed in one day. The only maintenance on the solar panels is fall draining. Solar panels come with a 10-year warranty with a 2-3 year payback on installation costs as compared to using traditional gas heat.

Geothermal

Geothermal energy is heat from within the earth used to heat and cool buildings. While temperatures above ground change day-to-day and season-to-season, temperatures in the upper 10’ of the Earth's surface hold nearly constant between 50 and 60 degrees F.  Making soil temperatures warmer than the air in winter and cooler in summer. As the Earth’s temperature below the frost line remains fairly constant, geothermal heat pumps perform with greater efficiency and in a larger range of extreme temperatures than conventional air conditioners, furnaces or boilers making them effective with radiant floor and forced air heating.  According to the EPA, geothermal heat pumps are the most energy-efficient, environmentally clean and cost-effective systems for temperature control.

O’Leary’s technicians are certified installers of hydronic heating, boilers, solar water heating and UNICO air cooling systems.  We’re constantly searching for the most advanced, efficient and reliable home heating and cooling equipment. We’re proud to be a Certified Contractor through the Focus on Energy Program.
