Why we visit in person
Some contractors will quote a furnace or AC over the phone from square footage alone. Were not one of them. A right-sized, properly installed system is the difference between 8 years of frustration and 20 years of quiet comfort. We need to see your house.
What were doing for those 60 minutes
Load calculation
- Square footage by floor.
- Window count, type, and orientation.
- Insulation type and condition (where visible).
- Existing duct condition + size.
- Air infiltration cues (visible gaps at rim joist, attic access, etc.).
This data goes into a Manual J load calculation — the industry- standard sizing method — that tells us exactly how much heating and cooling capacity your house needs.
Current system inspection
- Existing equipment model + age + condition.
- Refrigerant type (matters: R-22 is phased out).
- Duct sealing + insulation.
- Filter type and access.
- Thermostat type and capability.
- Electrical service capacity (important for heat pump conversions).
- Gas line size (important for tankless conversions).
Water-quality assessment (if relevant)
- Free hardness, iron, and TDS test on the spot.
- Existing softener/filter inspection.
- Drain options for new equipment.
Conversation about your priorities
- How long do you plan to stay in the home?
- What problems are you trying to solve (comfort, efficiency, cost, safety)?
- What's your budget envelope?
- Do you want to maximize the rebate stack (favors heat pump)?
- Are there comfort issues we should target (a hot room, a cold basement, humidity)?
What well leave behind
- A written quote with itemized scope of work, equipment model numbers + AHRI references, included accessories, permits, and the incentive stack modeled.
- Side-by-side options where its valuable — e.g., a furnace-AC option AND a heat pump option, so you can compare.
- Time to decide. Quotes are valid 30 days. We don't pressure people to sign in our presence.
What we won't do
- Quote sight-unseen for a major system.
- Pressure you to sign in our presence. If we can't earn your business with the quote and the conversation, were not going to earn it with pressure.
- Sell you a system you don't need. If your current furnace is 6 years old and just needs a $250 ignitor, were going to tell you that.
- Hide the rebate math. Every quote has a Pre-incentive column and a Net-cost column.
How to prepare
- Clear access to the furnace, water heater, and electrical panel.
- Have your last 12 months of utility bills handy if youd like us to model operating cost (not required).
- If you already have a competing quote, bring it. Were happy to do an apples-to-apples comparison.
- Make a list of comfort issues you want addressed (hot bedroom, cold kitchen floor, humidity in summer).
What it costs
Nothing. The estimate is free, no obligation.
Action
- Schedule your free in-home estimate. Most slots open within 3-7 business days.
- Already have a competing quote? Bring it; well do an apples-to-apples Free Second Opinion.
