The short answer: yes, if any of these apply
- The quote is over $5,000.
- The contractor is pressuring you to decide today.
- The contractor told you the system is "unsafe" or "red-tagged" but can't explain specifically why.
- The quote is for a brand or model you can't find independent reviews on.
- The quote skips permit + inspection line items.
- The quote requires full payment up front.
- You just don't feel right about it.
What the Free Second Opinion is
A scheduled in-home visit where we:
- Look at the existing system.
- Run our own diagnostic (refrigerant pressures, electrical, ductwork, load calc).
- Read the quote you were given carefully.
- Tell you plainly whether the diagnosis is right, the equipment is right-sized, and the price is reasonable for your area.
- Quote the same scope of work ourselves so you can compare side by side.
There is no obligation to do the work with us. We do this because we get a lot of business when people see two quotes side-by-side and the conversation is honest.
What were specifically checking
- Is the diagnosis right? We've seen "compressor is failing" diagnoses where the actual problem was a $40 capacitor. Were not saying every replacement quote is wrong — were saying you should verify a $7,000 recommendation before you're committed.
- Is the equipment correctly sized? We do our own Manual J load calc, not a square-foot rule of thumb. Wrong-sized HVAC is one of the most common defects we see — oversize wastes money, undersize can't keep up.
- Are the model numbers premium or value tier? "Lennox" or "Carrier" or "Trane" isn't a model spec. We look at the actual AHRI reference number to know what's being installed.
- Is the price reasonable? We know what the same job costs because we quote it routinely.
- Is the rebate stack included? Focus on Energy + federal 25C credit + utility rebate — if those line items arent on the quote, you're likely leaving money on the table.
- Is the permit included? If "no permit needed" comes up, were going to mention that the AHJ requires one.
What it isn't
A sales call. We don't commission our techs to "save the sale." If we look at your quote and the other contractors diagnosis and pricing are right, we say so. We tell you the original quote is fair, you should take it, here's why.
How long it takes
Typically a 45-75 minute visit. We schedule them within [verify: 3-7 business days of request, sooner if you're under pressure to sign].
How to schedule
- Online: request a Free Second Opinion. Upload a photo of the quote if youd like us to review ahead.
- By phone: (262) 642-7747.
- Bring the quote. A photo of the printed quote is fine. We look at the actual document, not just the price line.
What customers tell us
Roughly [verify: half of our second-opinion visits end with us doing the work; the other half confirm the original quote was reasonable and the customer goes with them]. Either outcome is a good outcome. We get a chance to introduce ourselves; you get peace of mind.
